Where do I go?
You will need to go to the Welcome Area which is on Levels 1 and 2 of the Sherfield Building on Imperial's South Kensington Campus.
What time do I need to arrive?
You must arrive at 09.45 for a 10.00am start. Please try not to be late…you don’t want to miss out on anything. But, if you are late a member of our team will be at the Welcome Area at all times to show you where you need to be. Our staff will be wearing bright yellow t-shirts so they are easy to spot.
How will the day be structured?
You will receive a programme when you arrive, but just so you can familiarise yourself with how you’ll be spending your day, here’s a heads-up with a copy of the timetable. You will be allocated a either Group A or B, depending on your surname. Remember to look at the right one for you! If you have any questions about this, or would like to change groups to be with your friends please just speak to a member of staff.

Career Workshops available on the day
You need to choose two of the below workshops…we advise not to go for your favourite one first, because you will get much more out of the session and a better opportunity to speak with the presenters if there are less people in your group.
Medicine
The British Medical Association is here to talk to you about why you should consider studying medicine, how to make an outstanding application to medical school, the UKCAT, interviews and work experience and embarking on a career as a doctor.
Solicitors
One of the world’s top law firms, Herbert Smith, is here to talk to you about a career as a solicitor, with a focus on City law. You will also participate in case studies to represent the challenges that face City lawyers.
Management Consultancy
Management consultants are invited into organisations and businesses to provide an objective analysis, wider expertise and specialist skills to help improve business performance. McKinsey and Co. will explain the roles and lifestyle of a management consultant, the different types of consulting and the entry requirements.
Accountancy
Accountants work in many different settings to provide financial services such as auditing, tax, business advice, management consultancy, systems and IT work and corporate finance. The ICAEW will discuss what these are, why you should consider a career in accountancy, the qualifications you need and how to get started.
Barristers
Barristers provide specialist legal advice and are the lawyers we are familiar with on television representing their clients in court. The Bar Council has asked female barrister Charlotte Pickering to come along today and talk to you about a legal career and how you can follow in her footsteps.
Computer Science
Computer scientists change the world. Technology is just about part of everything that touches our lives, from our mobile phones, to the movies we watch, to the ways we communicate with each other and the rest of the world. Learn how Google develops some of it's coolest products, then use YouTube, Google Maps or Translate to try some hands-on programming yourself!
Attending the workshops will make an excellent addition to your personal statement as evidence of positive exploration of your future career, even if you decide that none of them appeal to you. The sessions are much more fun if you get involved and ask questions and get business cards from the presenters – they want to help you so don’t be shy about putting your hand up! You might want to ask them how they got into their career, what they did at university to make them more employable? What sort of salary can you expect to earn? What are the perks of the job? What sort of hours do they work? If you really want to impress take a few minutes now to do some research – look at their website and their recent news.
How can I get to the University? Transport links and street maps
- The official university website is the best for this kind of information. Just to make it easy for you, here’s the link so you don’t need to search it on Google: Imperial Map.
- Please note that there will be no parking spaces available for individual cars on campus, therefore, students are advised to use public transport. Unfortunately we are unable to cover any travel expenses.
Other Stuff
- You must bring your own packed lunch! Trust us – it will make your lunch break much easier and you will avoid long queues!
- If you have any queries about anything that may happen on the day or if you wish to change group you can ask us on the day of the event. There will be lots of friendly staff around to help you out throughout the day.
Note to teachers
