Where do I go?

You need to go the the Welcome Area which is in the Herschel Building - click here for a map.

What time do I need to arrive?

You must arrive at 09.45 for a 10.00am start. Please try not to be late…you don’t want to miss out on anything. But, if you are late a member of our team will be at the Welcome Area at all times to show you where you need to be. All staff are dressed in bright yellow t-shirts so we are easy to spot.

How will the day be structured?

You will receive a programme when you arrive, but just so you can familiarise yourself with how you’ll be spending your day, here’s a heads-up with a copy of the timetable:

09.30-10.00    Registration
10.00-10.15    The Benefits of Higher Education

Career Workshops

You need to attend both careers workshops. At Newcastle you will have a choice of:

  • Law - Norton Rose
  • Medicine - BMA
  • Teaching - TDA or Teach First

We know that some of you may not be thinking of pursuing a career in these industries, however it is still essential that you attend two workshops. You can include the workshops in your personal statement as positive exploration of your career options. The career workshops are designed to encourage students to think about what their future career might be - who knows, like some Pure Potential Alumni, you could walk away with a completely new perspective on your future career. Pure Potential's advice is to come along with open mind - you never know what you might learn!

How can I get to the University? Transport links and street maps

The official university website is the best for this kind of information. Just to make it easy for you, here’s the link so you don’t need to search it on Google: Newcastle University Map.

Please note that there will be no parking spaces available for individual cars on campus, therefore, students are advised to use public transport or to park in Newcastle City Centre. Unfortunately we are unable to cover any travel expenses.

Other Stuff…

We recommend that you bring your own packed lunch as lunch will not be provided. At lunch time we will be escorting students to the Bistro, where they can buy lunch but due to the large number of students that are attending, the Bistro will be very busy.

If you have any queries about anything that may happen on the day or if you wish to change group you can ask us on the day of the event. There will be lots of friendly staff around to help you out throughout the day.

Note to teachers

We strongly encourage you to attend the sessions with your students.
