Make Your Mark

What is Make Your Mark?

Make Your Mark is the national campaign to create an enterprise culture among young people in the UK by giving people in their teens and twenties the inspiration and opportunity to turn their ideas into reality, whether through starting businesses or social enterprises or by making an idea happen at work.

Who is behind Make Your Mark?

The campaign is backed by an unprecedented coalition of business, charities, education bodies and government - it's unique in being young-people focused, business-led and government-backed. It is funded by the Small Business Service of the DTI.

Our Founders

We were founded by the four main UK business organisations - the British Chambers of Commerce, CBI, Federation of Small Businesses and Institute of Directors. Their Director Generals sit on our board.

Why should you get involved?

Making something happen with your enterprising ideas whilst at college or university is a creative way to earn money on your own terms, pay off debts, learn new skills and make useful contacts.

The campaign aims to stimulate student networks - to inspire and encourage creativity and provide an outlet for ideas. Ideas cannot happen in isolation and collaboration via networks can bring together the right mix of people, skills and experience needed to turn ideas into reality.

"Starting up a business or venture while you are at university or college is an amazing experience", says campaign ambassador and founder of Oxford Entrepreneurs, Rajeeb Day.

"It's a perfect time to try out ideas: there's a massive network of other young people to bounce ideas off, you have few responsibilities like mortgages to worry about and above all it gives you skills and experience that will be valuable in the world of work if you don't make your first million before you leave!"

How to get involved?

There are a number of ways you can get involved and they range from attending an Enterprise Week programme, to putting on actual events. The Make Your Mark Campaign isn't just about self employment but having an idea and making it happen, something societies and unions do everyday!
