Linklaters
Share the ambition
This is about what we can do for you, as well as what you can do for us. Linklaters is ambitious. For us, it's not enough to be just 'another leading law firm': we want to create something new in professional services - beyond league tables, beyond the magic circle, beyond what anyone expects of a conventional law firm. To achieve exceptional and remarkable things for our clients, we need exceptional and remarkable people who instinctively understand and share our ambition.
Strength in numbers
Linklaters is the global law firm that advises the world's leading companies, financial institutions and governments on their most challenging transactions and assignments. There are approximately 2,000 lawyers at Linklaters; we work in 23 different countries with clients including over 50% of the FTSE-100. While many law firms have strengths in particular areas, we are strong across the full range of commercial, corporate and financial law: this makes Linklaters a particularly rewarding place to train as a lawyer. It gives you more options when you qualify too.
Learning the law
The firm recruits graduates from both law and non-law disciplines, so you don't need a law degree if you'd rather study something different at university. Graduates in other disciplines spend a year at law school, taking the Graduate Diploma in Law. All trainees have to complete the Legal Practice Course before they begin their training contracts. Whichever route you take, we pay your way. The training contract itself is built around four six-month placements in different practice areas. As well as making you a well-rounded lawyer, it also gives you a good idea of what you might want to do after qualifying. There are opportunities for client secondments and overseas placements, throughout your training contract (and beyond).
Working together
Ask anyone from Linklaters what they most enjoy about the firm, and the answer is usually the same: 'It's the people'. Our people come from many different backgrounds and cultures. By working together, we achieve great things for clients, but we also fulfill our own potential and ambitions as individuals. Training with Linklaters means working alongside some of the world's best lawyers on some of the world's most challenging deals. There is mutual benefit here, as well as mutual respect. We expect a lot of our trainees, but the rewards - personal and professional as well as financial - can be very high indeed.
