Cancer Research UK

Company Profile

Cancer Research UK carries out world-class research into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer, working closely in partnership with others to achieve great impact in the global fight against cancer. Cancer Research UK is a rapidly growing and complex organisation. It is the world's largest fundraising medical charity with a varied workforce of nearly 4,000, and many thousands of volunteers.

In 2005, our income was £423 million, making us as big as a typical FTSE 350 company. It's essential that we are every bit as professional, efficient and sophisticated as any commercial organisation. Cancer Research UK incorporates cutting-edge marketing, pioneering science, a large retail network, international academic links and multi-site operational management.

We believe that the best way of achieving our ambitious agenda is by working collaboratively both within our organisation and with external partners. This means valuing the diverse contributions and talents each individual can bring to our organisation. We are funded almost entirely by the generous donations of our supporters. So the decisions we make about how we spend our money and the work we do is driven by our determination to demonstrate the high impact of what we achieve and the integrity and excellence of what we do.

We are passionate about our vision - we all share a fundamental belief that by working together we will beat cancer

I was surprised to see how prepared some of the students were, very impressed - they were very good with questions and being interactive.
