icould - it just shows what you can do…
icould.com is a new, free online careers resource created to encourage and inspire. It provides those thinking about their next steps for the future with a timely and accessible source of independent career support.
At its heart is a unique library of personal stories, told on film by people of all ages and backgrounds, in all sorts of occupations. It is the biggest collection of its kind, with over 1000 stories filmed to date.
Through the stories, we bring to life a huge variety of career possibilities which can support you to think positively and practically about your own career decisions, regardless of personal circumstance.
The films are not just about the storyteller’s current occupation or qualifications; they are real-life narratives, talking about their personal journey and highlighting chances taken or missed, good luck and bad, life-changing events, obstacles overcome, changes of direction, skills discovered, passions followed, achievements and failures.
Stories can be searched and discussed by themes, sectors, interests, as well as giving you the opportunity to share and download content. icould also features monthly competitions with the chance to win unique job taster experiences.
‘icatchers’
There are also stories which provide an insight into careers which may seem out of reach, or unrealistic. Some of our eye-catching stories come from public figures (or icatchers!) such as Alan Milburn MP, television presenter Davina McCall, entrepreneur Richard Branson and DJ Trevor Nelson as well as a host of musicians, actors and sports personalities. These stories show that you can come from anywhere and achieve in such public fields; they also show the practical realities of these career choices.
