Our advisors are part of the EducationUSA network of over 450 advising centres worldwide and are the official source of information on US study in the UK.
How We Can Support You
Check out our website, www.fulbright.co.uk, for a how-to guide to study or intern in the US. In the autumn, mark your diary for our USA College Day fair and meet representatives from over 100 US universities and educational service providers in London. You may also wish to attend one of our two-hour seminars on undergraduate study. Pure Potential will also host our advisors for talk on exchanges to the US this summer. Last year, a record 8,700 UK students chose the States for their studies. There are many options to fit your interests and finances. Complete your bachelor's in the US. Or take a break from your studies in the UK for a summer internship or study abroad programme.
Why Go Abroad
Why do so many students cross the Atlantic for exchange programmes? In a recent survey, we found British students were most attracted to the availability of funding for bachelor's study in the US, as well as the reputation and flexibility of its degrees. You don’t have to decide your major until the second year. Studying or working abroad is not only a fun and exciting way to learn about a new culture, but also an excellent opportunity to expand your CV and develop skills that employers seek.
Your Options - A Bachelor's Degree
Picture yourself on an American college campus. See the vibrant campus life going on around you. The engaging class discussions. Hundreds of student organisations to get involved with. A football (American that is) stadium filled with 50,000 fans each Saturday. The best way to experience American college life is being there yourself. You may have heard US study is expensive. This is true, but there is a significant amount of funding offered by American universities based on your academics, financial need and status as an international students. In fact, many UK students have received full scholarships to study in the US, such as Laura Turnbridge who received full funding to attend Yale University. Study Abroad and Internships Attending a UK university?
There are still plenty of opportunities to go to the US. Most UK universities have programmes already set-up for you to spend your second or third year out at an American university. The only extra cost will be your visa and flight over. Contact your study abroad office for more information. Interested in a summer programme instead? Fulbright offers a six-week, all-expense paid Summer Institute (applications due in April) for 18-20 year old UK students. Another option is to complete an internship or work at a summer camp. There are many companies that can arrange a placement and J visa for you.
