Investing in Excellence

Newcastle University is one of the most popular universities in the UK with over 18,000 students. In the latest National Student Survey, the overwhelming majority of our final-year students were happy with the quality of their study experience. Students rated the University particularly highly in areas such as teaching quality and learning resources.

This was reflected in our most recent subject-specific reviews carried out by the QAA, when Newcastle achieved an average of 22 out of 24 in all subjects assessed.

At Newcastle you can choose from over 200 undergraduate degrees including subjects in arts, social sciences, business and law, medical sciences, physical sciences and engineering. Many of these degree programmes offer students the option of studying abroad or a year working in industry, giving our students diverse and transferable skills. Our graduates are in demand and have higher than the national average starting salaries and graduate employability rates.

There is continuous investment in facilities and the student experience at Newcastle University. We have partnered with the city council to acquire a further 14.4 acres of city centre land, representing an investment of £33million. This will become ‘Science City,’ creating exciting new teaching and research facilities, as well as more jobs and opportunities for graduates.

The University is also investing in recreational facilities, with the opening of a £5.5 million Sports Centre. This houses a state-of-the-art gym, several sports halls and is the home to 44 sports clubs, offering everything from lacrosse to tae-kwon-do at a range of competitive and non-competitive levels. Students at Newcastle University benefit from seven bars, a large music venue and a number of shops and support services, all situated in a dedicated Union Society building on campus.

Newcastle University’s mission is to be part of the economic, social and cultural development of the North East of England. The University is an integral part of the city and region, and students quickly feel at home here.
