Working with Pure Potential

Pure Potential was founded in 2005 to plug the aspirations, knowledge and confidence gap between independent and state school students when it comes to progressing to the most competitive universities and careers. We promote social mobility by introducing bright, state-educated students to opportunities as they make crucial university and career choices. We are supported by a wide range of leading employers from a range of industries, and we are always looking to work with new firms.

Below is a snap shot of some of the regular activities we organise, but in many cases we offer a bespoke service to our partner firms. Should you have any ideas or questions about how we could work together please be in touch.

purepotential.org

Over 250,000  students visit our website each year in search of information on universities and careers. Students can view company profiles of all our partner firms which include a brief overview of their industry, a 500-word description of their company and information on their recruitment processes.

APPLY - The Sixth Form Guide

In the last six months alone, over 25,000 copies of APPLY have been bought by state-schools and colleges in the UK. With articles on applying to university and careers, work experience, gap years and CV writing, students are encouraged to keep the guide long after they leave school.

Alternatives to University Guide

Teachers are often ill-equipped to advise students on the alternatives to university – some are convinced that university remains the only option for their high-achieving students, whilst others are cynical about the recent changes in the system, or simply have very little insight into the range of industries, fantastic opportunities and competitive salaries that their students could be earning.

Pure Potential and Future Talent are launching a booklet covering everything teachers need to know about the alternatives to university. The guide will contain information on apprenticeships, school leaver programmes, fast-track programmes and firm-sponsored degrees, with clear definitions of each, application advice, insider tips from recruiters, deadlines, office locations, entry requirements, programme length and starting salaries (optional).

PP: Finance Event

There are a few opportunities in the City which enable lucky sixth formers to experience the world of accounting and finance but these opportunities tend to be either hugely over-subscribed or insufficiently publicised. Every year Pure Potential is inundated with ambitious school students asking us how they can find out more about financial careers. We therefore believe that there is huge appetite for a large-scale single-day event at which we introduce leading financial firms to state-educated sixth formers and give them the opportunity to learn about their future careers through workshops, presentations and a careers fair.

PP: Law Event

This annual event takes place just before Easter. PP: Law informs 250 first-year, state-educated undergraduates about a career in a law, to encourage them to apply for vacation schemes, insight days, graduate programmes and full-time roles. We market, organize, and manage the event, guarantee student numbers and quality, and deliver a database of all event applicants along with feedback. Law firms are asked to host 20-30 students at their offices.

PP: School Leavers Event

Pure Potential runs an event for 250 Year 12 and 13 state-educated students specifically interested in school leaver programmes each year. The presentation cover the benefits of school leaver programmes, interview practice, CV writing and networking skills. Students also have the chance to find out about specific industries in hour-long, interactive sessions which demonstrate the kind of work involved, entry requirements and qualifications that could be gained. The event in 2013 was an overwhelming success, we met bright, engaged and ambitious students and there was excellent feedback from firms and students alike.

PP: Sixth Events

Our six nationwide PP: Sixth summer events are an excellent way of meeting talented sixth-formers each year. At our events, students learn about the financial resources available as undergraduates, how to make a strong university application, and they attend Career Workshops. Run by our graduate employers, the Career Workshops offer a snap-shot of a particular industry and an insight into working at their firm. As well as meeting our students at our events, our partner firms also appear on all our marketing material including a poster, flyers and invitations which are distributed directly to 20,000 students. All event attendees also receive a programme featuring all partner firms' logos and description.

PP: Communications

We have a constantly updated database of over 3,000 schools and 25,000+ students from Year 12 through to graduate level who want to hear from our partner firms. We can communicate your firm's opportunities and events to our students and teachers by email, SMS, Facebook, Twitter and our website. We monitor the success of each campaigns through our email and website tracking facilities.

Social mobility

Pure Potential has been actively involved in advising a range of organisations and government bodies on social mobility. We strongly feel that by providing state school students with the information, advice and guidance they need, we can help raise the aspirations or thousands of students each year, and enable social mobility. Pure Potential contributed to a Social Mobility Tool Kit which is designed to help understand the case for greater social mobility and develop ways in which they can widen access to the professions from under-represented groups. You can download a copy of the Tool Kit, by clicking here.
